There is a need to cool the hot pellets coming from the Pellet Mill near an ambient temperature. This will remove excess heat and moisture to improve the shelf life. For this purpose, Counter Flow Coolers are very effective as they are compact, highly efficient & maintenance free.
Principle
In Counter Flow Coolers, the product continuously moves in downward direction in a bed of product in first-in-first-out manner, and cool air goes through product in the upward direction. By the time the product and air pass each other, and they exchange moisture and heat.
Construction
This rectangular chamber is made of SS-304, and having an Air-Lock on the top for entrance of material without any air escape and a triple-grid-gate for material discharge.
A rotating or stationary product distributor is placed to equally distribute the entering product over the product bed. A consistent bed height is well-kept inside the chamber, which can be decreased / increased to control the retention time by altering the level sensor position, which outsets the discharging mechanism.
Atmospheric air is sucked by the product layer with I.D. Fan, which has butterfly valve to control the optimal volume of air necessary for cooling. Also, the air can be controlled through a variable frequency A.C. Drive by altering Blower RPM.
It is necessary to separate dust (fine feed) from exhaust air to confront shrinkage as well as air pollution. Well designed Cyclone with Air Lock at bottom offer clean air to atmosphere.
Even distribution of pellets for even bed height is required to avoid uneven cooling.
Butterfly valve is given on I.D. Fan to control the optimal air volume requisite for effective cooling.
Level Sensor can be adjusted up / down to control the bed height of pellets inside the cooling chamber to set the retention time for removal of moisture from the pellets' core as well as avoid cooling shock.
Well designed heavy-duty I.D. Fan with balanced rotor.
